A bloody husband art thou to me.
A bloody husband art thou to me.
Exodus 4:24-25『And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him. Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet her, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.』
If we look at chapter 4 verse 24 again in Hebrew,
וַיְהִ֥י בַדֶּ֖רֶךְ בַּמָּלֹ֑ון וַיִּפְגְּשֵׁ֣הוּ יְהוָ֔ה וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ הֲמִיתֹֽו׃
According to the Hebrew Bible, Haya(וַיְהִ֥י) is the name that Jehovah God gave to Moses. It is a name that means “I exist.” God directly reveals his name. Derek(דֶּ֖רֶךְ) is derived from the word attic (to step, walk) and means a path, symbolically a journey of life, or a pattern of action, and as an adverb it means ~ therefore, apart, because, through, towards. Maron(מָּלֹ֑ון) has the meaning of campsite, inn, etc. In the Old Testament, the tabernacle has also been used as a concept for a sanctuary. Pagash(פְגְּשֵׁ֣הוּ) means to meet or contact. Bakash means to ask, to desire, to plead. Mut means to die, to die, or to destroy.
If we translate Chapter 4, Verse 25 again, it says, “The Lord found him in his lodgings on the way and wished for him to die.” Everyone dies, but God shows us the grace of redemption through him. Moses' wife, Zipporah, was a foreign woman, and her sons were also uncircumcised. This means that the son Gershom became a guest in a foreign country. Moses' eldest son must be circumcised, and this is how he is made to be circumcised.
Moses is a symbol of Christ. Just as Christ died on the cross and redeemed all mankind, Moses also died so that his people could be saved. The death of Moses was represented by the circumcision of his son. Although circumcision is an act of cutting off part of the body, it means that the physical body is dead. “Moses’s wife Zipporah took a loaf (a symbol of Christ) and cut her son’s sheepskin” to have the meaning of being associated with the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
『Then Zipporah took (go out) a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son』”Go out” means 『touching』. This is in Luke 7:37-38, 『And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Breaking the alabaster box symbolizes death, and a woman It is a participation in the death of Christ.
『A bloody husband art thou to me..』Blood means life and Jesus Christ. Those who eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood will gain eternal life. Blood husband means that Moses is the husband of life. In other words, a saint becomes the wife of Jesus Christ. Because Zipporah confessed like that, God released Moses. In Isaiah 53:5, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.』God released those who needed to die in Jesus Christ. From then on, the word blood husband is called circumcision.
